Greatest trees in Westminster

Marylebone-Elm.jpgA Marylebone tree has been named one of the greatest in London.

A Huntingdon elm tree in Marylebone High Street joined the roll-call of 'Great Trees of London' compiled by charity Trees for London.

Four other Westminster trees made the list, voted for by Londoners, including London planes trees in Embankment, in Victoria; Berkeley Square, in West End; and Gower Street and Westminster Abbey, both in Westminster.

More trees in Westminster made the grade than any other London borough.

Westminster Council's arboricultural manager Paul Akers said: "Many of the trees in Westminster have a long and glorious history and we are working to ensure that they continue to delight residents and visitors for generations to come through a number of tree planting schemes.

"We live in a crowded, busy city, and I appreciate just how much our residents and visitors value the site of greenery in the midst of the hustle and bustle."

We'd like to hear from you.
