Avenues.jpgSeven young people from Queen's Park paid a visit to China.

The team from Avenues Youth Club, in Third Avenue, went to Beijing and other provinces to meet young Chinese students and to find out about youth projects in China.

They stopped off at the Chinese Young Volunteers Association; media universities in Hangzhou; 12355 Youth Support Centre for children and young people; and managed to squeeze in a visit to the Great Wall of China.

The trip was put together by the British Council, which offers 400 young people the chance to visit China, in return for an exchange visit by the Chinese students over the coming months.

One of the young people, Kirsty Tison, 18, was responsible for securing funding for the trip, totalling around £7,000.

Other people who secured a place on the China 400 Future Leaders Exchange were Cherell Smith, 21; Sean Gallagher, 19; Shereena Friday, 18; Candice Fontaine, 21; Keighley McNeish, 21; and Patrice Etienne, 20.

Youth leader Joanna Peik-Azadi said: "If it was not for Kirsty's hard work and dedication to raising the money for this trip, The Avenues would not have been able to send a group.

"I'm very proud of the young people and was impressed with their ability to demonstrate unity and leadership. I could not have gone with a better group."
