'Barbecue fire' in Marylebone
A blaze broke out at a flat in Marylebone last night.
A small part of the three room flat in Great Portland Street and part of the outside decking were damaged by the fire.
Two people left the flat before the brigade arrived. Firefighters believed the fire was caused by a barbecue.
Watch Manager Gary Pyle said: "The weather is warming up and more people will be having barbecues.
"Unfortunately, fires caused by barbecues can get out of control and could lead to a visit from local firefighters.
"These situations can be avoided by following some simple safety advice.
"People shouldn't use petrol to light their barbecues and they should never be left unattended.
"Once people have finished with the barbecue they must make sure it's fully extinguished before leaving it.
"They should also be kept away from the house, sheds, fences, garden furniture and overhanging trees or shrubs."
Firefighters from Euston, Paddington, Soho and Clerkenwell Fire Stations attended the incident.
The Brigade was called at 9.47pm and the fire was under control by 11pm. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
