Pop-up loo for Paddington
An unusual pop-up toilet will be installed outside Paddington station.
The quirky device remains underground during the day or when not needed and is mechanically raised with a remote control to reveal three urinals.
Hyde Park ward councillors at Westminster Council agreed to buy and install the pop-up loo to tackle the problem of people urinating in the street.
The urinal, which costs just over £100,000 to install and maintain for eight years, is being paid for with money from the Hyde Park ward budget.
Westminster council allocated each ward £100,000 a year to spend on local projects and priorities under its Neighbourhoods Programme.
Westminster Council's cabinet member for customers and neighbourhoods Cllr Audrey Lewis said: "Street urination is a wholly unpleasant problem for many city centres where people sadly show little regard for the communities who live where they choose to relieve themselves.
"This pop-up device means we can hide it away during the day but ensure people have no excuses if they are on their way home after they've had a few drinks."
