St John's Wood flat blaze

Fire broke out at a flat in St John's Wood in the early hours of today.

A bedsit on the first floor of the Finchley Road block was gutted by the fire and its occupier escaped before the fire brigade arrived.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a man and a woman from a flat on the first floor and another man from a flat on the second floor.

The fire brigade was called at 2.44am and the blaze was under control by 3.40am.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
