Flat fire in North Paddington

Firefighters were called to a fire in a flat in North Paddington in the early hours of today.

They rescued a woman from the first floor of the flat, in Shirland Road.

Summer fun in Marylebone

This year's Marylebone summer fair is fast approaching.

On June 14, around 25,000 people are expected to turn out for the extravaganza, held in Marylebone High Street and the surrounding roads.

In a battle of the generations, parents will take on their children at Queen's Park Library.

On Saturday, Queen's Park Library, in Fourth Avenue, is hosting a special parents against children tournament on the computer games console Wii.

Two large bins were stolen from outside a Paddington bank.

Staff at Barclays Bank, in Edgware Road, called police on Wednesday when they discovered the bins were missing.

Families in Westminster are being invited to a number of events across the city next week.

To mark the UK's first ever Family Week (Monday May 25th to Friday May 29th), the Abbey Community Centre, in Great Smith Street, Pimlico; the Beethoven Centre, in Third Avenue, Queen's Park, and the Greenside Community Centre, in Lilestone Street, Lisson Grove, are hosting a number of activities.

Westminster tube crime cut

Catching the tube in the Westminster is an even safer way to travel with crime down 11 per cent, according to British Transport Police's annual crime figures released yesterday.

Announcing the reduction in crime on tube trains and at stations in the borough, Chief Superintendent Miles Flood attributed the good results to the introduction of Neighbourhood Policing Teams.

A former Marylebone fire station which has lain empty for years is to be turned into a luxury hotel.

The grade-II listed Manchester Square fire station was used as a fire station from 1889 to 2005, when the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority disposed of the building.

All four wheels were pinched from a car in North Paddington.

A 53-year-old man parked his Aston Martin in Clifton Gardens, overnight between Saturday and Sunday.
