Inspectors praised adult education in Westminster in a recent report.

Adults taught by Westminster Adult Education Service (WAES) are receiving 'good' teaching, according to its latest Ofsted report.

The service offers mainly part-time courses at three main centres in Amberley Road, Westbourne Green; Frith Street, Soho; and Sutherland Street, Pimlico, and up to 70 community venues.

Barbara Holm, WAES head of service, said: "We're extremely proud to be recognised as a good adult education provider that meets the needs and interests of our learners.

"Everyone at WAES works very hard to provide the best experience for all our learners.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their commitment and dedication."

The report noted: "Enthusiastic teaches, many with good professional experience, provide strong support for learners and develop good relationships with them.

"Learning resources are generally good.

"The service is responsive to government and local priorities, and has developed a wide range of accredited provision that develops employability and life skills for learners well."

A great improvement was also noted since WAES' last inspection in 2005.

The report stated: "Provision for literacy and numeracy is much improved. The quality of teaching and learning has improved.

"Senior managers are clear on service priorities and effectively communicate this vision to staff."
