Revamp for North Paddington sports pitch

Posted by Juliet Eysenck on Jul 20, 09 12:09 PM in Local Authority

A sports facility in North Paddington is undergoing a £250,000 transformation.

Work began today at Paddington Recreation Ground, in Randolph Avenue, to create a new water-based synthetic sports pitch for games including hockey, football and rugby.

There are currently two artificial pitches at the ground but the water-based is more than nine years old and in need of replacement.

The upgrade will ensure the facility meets the Federation of International Hockey's (FIH) global standards for elite hockey competitions.

Half the funding for the pitch will be provided by Hampstead and Westminster hockey club which regularly uses the pitch.

Earlier in the year, Westminster Council unveiled a £1.5million refurbishment and extension to the ground's pavilion to double the number of changing rooms and create a resource room for schools, sports clubs and community groups to use for meetings, training and presentations.

The council's cabinet member for adult and community services Cllr Ed Argar said: "Paddington Recreation Ground is already renowned as one of London's best sports facilities and these improvements will ensure it goes from strength to strength."

We'd like to hear from you.

Yes! This is just what we need, with sports facilities closing down all over the place this is the type of news that brightens my day. Thank you Juliet.
