Young girl dies of swine flu at Paddington hospital

A six-year-old has died of swine flu at a Paddington hospital.

Chloe Buckley tested positive for the virus, and died at St Mary's Hospital, in Praed Street, on Thursday.

This takes the number of confirmed deaths in London to six.

A post mortem is to be carried out to see if Chloe had any underlying health conditions before contracting the virus.

Dr Simon Tanner, regional director of public health for NHS London, said: "We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family at this difficult time as they come to terms with their loss."

The six-year-old lived in West Drayton and was a pupil at St Catherine's School in Money Lane, West Drayton.

NHS London advises people to use tissues to catch sneezes, throw away used tissues and regularly wash their hands to kill the virus.

Swine flu is a very mild illness in the vast majority of cases and most people should start to feel better after a few days, without seeing their GP or going to hospital.

Those most at-risk include pregnant women, the very young, over 65s or those with long-term health conditions such as asthma and diabetes.

If you suspect you have swine flu, check the symptoms online at www.nhs.uk or call the swine flu information line on 0800 1513513.

If you are still concerned or are feel very unwell, call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 or telephone your GP for more advice.

We'd like to hear from you.
