Former Marylebone dentist dies after fall
A former Marylebone dentist died after falling at his friend's house, an inquest heard.
Miles Hely, who served as a dentist with the Royal Navy during the Second World War and later had a practice in Harley Street until 2002, tripped while walking down steps when staying with his friend in Theresa Road, Hammersmith, in June.
Westminster Coroner's Court heard on Wednesday heard that the 87-year-old was taken to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, in Fulham Road, Chelsea, where it was discovered he had fractured three ribs.
While doctors examined him, they noticed he had several more problems which Mr Hely had not known about including kidney and heart failure.
Six days after he was admitted to hospital he died, despite doctors doing all they could to treat him.
Mr Schneider, a surgeon at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital said: "These problems combined to undermine his health in what proved to be a fatal way sadly."
Westminster coroner Dr Paul Knapman said: "As often happens in elderly people, for various reasons, not least the shock and pain, these things seems to have combined to cause a deterioration in Mr Hely's condition."
Dr Knapman recorded a verdict of accidental death.
