Hundreds of children on a Queen's Park estate are to be benefit from a new £155,000 playground.

Aimed at children under 12, the playground will be built on the Mozart Estate behind Lawes House, in Lancefield Street.

It will be divided into two areas - a toddler and a junior play area featuring slides, a climbing frame and a swing set.

The area, which measures around 50sq meters, will also be completely landscaped and feature new flower beds, habitats to attract wildlife and bird boxes.

New fencing will be installed and a security firm will lock the area at night to improve security.

The total cost of the playground is £155,000 - £72,000 has come from The Big Lottery Fund and the remaining sum from Westminster Council's housing arm CityWest Homes.

Cllr Philippa Roe, Westminster's cabinet member for housing, said: "This is a very exciting scheme that will help regenerate the Mozart Estate creating a new and safe play facility which families can enjoy."

Mark Hoyland, chief executive at CityWest Homes added: "We're delighted to have secured the funding for this playground from the Big Lottery fund.

"It is very important that young people have somewhere to play and we've worked closely with parents and children to choose a playground design that they like."

Construction is set to start in early in the autumn and is expected to finish in November.
