Unusual gallery opens in Regent's Park
Visitors to Regent's Park can explore giant tree houses, enjoy storytelling, take part in traditional crafts workshops, participate in debates or just relax in enormous swinging pods, as part of the TreeHouse Gallery project which runs until 6 September 2009.
Located to the north of the boating lake, the project comprises two tree-top structures built from naturally sourced and reclaimed materials - the Spherical Reading Gallery which houses a collection of bark-bound books and the bulb-shaped Budding Hub Gallery, which hosts discussions and workshops.
A collection of ground-based structures, which include the Medicinal Hanging Gardens, the Open Symposium, and Orbitectural structures are situated beneath the tree houses.
The main part of the project that the team is currently working on is to build a timber lift that will allow disabled access to the Budding Hub.
Inspired by the surrounding environment, the Gallery encourages people to take an interest in nature through a free programme of creative activities, with more than 60 workshops and events taking place over the coming weeks.
The project is free and open to everyone.
Highlights include:
Sunday 16 August 2009 - 2pm to 3pm: A talk on Ecology and Poetry by the award winning poet Mario Petrucci.
Sunday 23 August - 4pm to 6pm: William Wardlaw Rogers helps explore the impact of Storytelling and how it shapes reality.
Saturday 29 August 2009 - 1pm to 3.30pm: Tree Tales and Forest Fables from the award-winning story teller Sarah Mooney.
Sunday 30 August 2009 - 3pm to 4pm: Tanya Jackson leads a workshop teaching Folk Songs and vocal harmony.
Saturday 5 September 2009 - 1pm to 3pm: Recycled art and craft workshop for children and adults.
Nick Biddle, Park Manager of Regent's Park, The Royal Parks, said: "The TreeHouse Gallery is a very unusual and original temporary installation in Regent's Park.
"It consists of two platforms which have been built in the trees and a variety of ground based structures.
"You can just turn up to marvel or you can get involved in an activity or workshop - it's an experience you will not forget!"

Tree-mendous news. It's about time people started re-connecting with our royal parks. I just hope no-one leaves early.
