Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was seriously assaulted in her Lisson Grove home.

The woman, in her 40s, was attacked and robbed by a man who talked his way into her Penfold Street home, at around 2.30pm on Friday, September 18.

After assaulting her, the man stole jewellery, including gold necklaces, bracelets, rings and a quantity of cash.

He then lit a fire before leaving.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she remains, but her condition is not life-threatening.

The suspect is described as a light skinned black man, aged between 30 to 35 years, of large build and approximately 6ft in height.

He was wearing a grey jumper, blue jeans and brown shoes.

DCI Alexis Boon, of Westminster's Serious Violence Team, said: "This was a horrendous attack on a woman in her own home.

"I would urge anyone who has any information about the attack, or may have seen something suspicious to call us on: 020 7321 9314.

"Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

DCI Boon said: "Always ask callers for proof of identity and check it carefully. If you are unsure, telephone the organisation the caller claims to represent and if you have any concerns contact police."
