Marylebone to become cashless?

Posted by Juliet Eysenck on Oct 12, 09 01:09 PM in Good Causes

Cash could soon become a thing of the past in Marylebone, as good deeds are exchanged instead.

From walking dogs to washing cars, civic-minded residents could soon be offering an hour of their time in exchange for an hour of someone else's time.

The Time Bank scheme was launched last week at Church Army's Marylebone Project, a service run for homeless women in Bell Street, with a dozen residents signing up.

The services offered are limited only by the skills of the time bank's members, and can include anything from gardening, cooking and cleaning, to reading lessons, massage and translation.

For the women of the Marylebone Project, the time bank will allow them to share skills they already posses with one another.

Over time, it is envisaged that the time bank will spread to the wider Marylebone community, including St Paul's Church, in Rossmore Road, Lisson Grove, with which the Church Army has a strong link.

If this succeeds in expanding the membership, then future residents of the project may be able to start small businesses through the time bank.

A similar scheme is being set up in North Paddington, by the Harrow Road Neighbourhood Partnership.

We'd like to hear from you.
