A vaccination protecting against a potentially deadly virus is now available free in eight Westminster pharmacies.

The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, which helps protect against cervical cancer, is offered at several chemists across the borough including Benson Pharmacy, in Harrow Road, North Paddington, and Warwick Pharmacy, in Warwick Way, Pimlico.

The other pharmacies offering the free jab are Devonshire Pharmacy, in Edgware Road, Paddington; Colonades Pharmacy, in Porchester Road, Bayswater; Remedy's Pharmacy, in Clifton Road, Maida Vale; Nashi Pharmacy, in Westbourne Grove, Bayswater; Portman's Pharmacy, in Tachbrook Street, Pimlico; Market Chemist, in Church Street, Lisson Grove.

On October 11, NHS Westminster won a national award for 'service innovation of the year' at the Pharma Awards, for being the first primary care trust in the country to develop a free service providing the jab.

As part of a vaccination programme, NHS launched a website - www.hpv123.org - informing girls aged 16 to 18, living in Westminster, about why, how and where to pick up the HPV vaccine.
