Flu jab available from Westminster's pharmacies

Posted by Juliet Eysenck on Nov 4, 09 09:18 AM in Health

The annual flu vaccination is now available from GPs and from 40 pharmacies throughout Westminster.

Everyone aged 65 and over is offered the free jab, along with younger people who have long-term conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, kidney disease and liver disease.

The vaccine must be given every year as it is altered to match the different seasonal flu strains in circulation.

People in Westminster can get the jab from their general practice or from 40 pharmacies throughout the City.

Dr Margaret Guy, director of public health at NHS Westminster, added: "We're currently receiving delivery of the swine flu vaccine which will be very important in helping to protect vulnerable people in our community against swine flu.

"However, we must also remember the importance of the seasonal vaccine.

"It's safe to have both vaccinations on the same day - both swine flu and seasonal flu - as long as each vaccine is injected into a different limb."
