Girl dies following St John's Wood flat fire

A young girl has died following a flat fire in St John's Wood early this morning.

A man and a boy left the flat at a four-storey block in Cunningham Place before fire crews arrived.

Another man and two children had to be rescued by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.

The fire badly damaged the third floor flat.

Fire crews were called at 2.54am and the fire was under control by 4.20am.

Crews from Paddington, North Kensington and Belsize were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
