Parking charges on Boxing Day in Westminster

Posted by Juliet Eysenck on Dec 21, 09 02:30 PM in Local Authority

Motorists visiting Westminster on Boxing Day will be charged to park in council bays.

Westminster Council is instead offering free parking on Monday, December 28 - the country's official bank holiday.

Free parking will be offered on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Kevin Goad, Westminster council's head of parking, said: "We understand that parking enforcement is not always popular but with well over half a million vehicles entering Westminster every day, it is a necessary tool to protect the safety of motorists and pedestrians and to keep traffic moving - particularly on Boxing Day which is set to be one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

"Any motorists who wants full details of parking restrictions during the Christmas and New Year period should contact the council directly or visit our website for more information."

Resident parking only bays will continue to be enforced over the holidays, and motorists are advised to check the times that these spaces are controlled.

For more information on parking over the festive period visit the the council's website on www.westminster.gov.uk.
