Top lawyer visits Westbourne Green school
Questions were fired at a top legal expert by pupils at a Westbourne Green school.
Edmund Hall, senior prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), held a debate over the criminal justice system during a visit to Westminster Academy in Harrow Road, on Tuesday.
Mr Hall has been a prosecutor for more than 20 years and has played a key role in developing prosecution policy for football-related offences.
During his time at the school, he presented examples of famous cases to illustrate the work of the CPS.
More than 100 sixth form and year nine students then debated issues such as whether the police should be given more powers, police behaviour at recent public protests and whether the courts were fulfilling the wishes of the electorate.
Mahmoud Salam Perez, a pupil at the school, said: "The event was enlightening and has definitely opened our eyes about the prosecution process and the various rights that young people have."
Westminster Academy principal Smita Bora, who chaired the event, added: "I'm proud of the maturity and insight displayed by our students in devising their challenging questions."
